2012 Buick Verano Pricing Announced for Columbia SC

2012 Buick Verano Columbia SC

The 2012 Buick Verano starts at $23,470, and will be available late this year in Columbia SC from Jim Hudson Buick.

Today, Buick announced pricing for the 2012 Buick Verano.  This new, smaller premium sedan will start at $23,470 and feature a long list of standard premium amenities.   (By comparison, the 2012 Buick Regal in Columbia SC that most recently served as Buick’s entry point features a starting price of $27,530.)

Verano comes standard with a 2.4-liter engine making 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, run through a six-speed automatic transmission on the way to 18-inch alloy wheels.  (A high-performance turbocharged version is expected for 2013.)  Verano’s exterior is distinguished by sleek lines, blue translucent projector beam headlamps and standard fog lamps, and small viewing windows in the side allow for exceptional visibility from behind the wheel.

Verano offers three packages–base, Convenience Group, and top-level Leather Group that features the same premium seat material as the flagship Buick LaCrosse.  Base models feature no fewer than 10 airbags along with a theft deterrent system, StabiliTrak stability control system with traction control, and the safety of OnStar’s suite of services for your protection.  OnStar can notify emergency services when you’ve been in an accident and relay crucial information even if you’re unable to answer the call.  If your Verano is reported stolen (not that we can blame them), OnStar can notify police of its exact location, prevent it from being started again, and even slow the vehicle down remotely in coordination with the police.

For your comfort, Verano features standard dual-zone automatic climate control.  Leather-equipped models receive a heated steering wheel and heated front seats that sense when the temperature is below 45 degrees and turn on when you use the remote start function to make Verano a warm, welcoming place.  These models also receive E-Z Key passive entry and pushbutton start, meaning you won’t even have to pull your keys out of your pocket or purse to get inside and start your car.

Verano features Buick’s new IntelliLink system as standard equipment.  IntelliLink features a 7-inch color touchscreen for unparalleled connectivity between your smartphone and the audio system.  Whether you want to enjoy Pandora radio streamed through your phone or plug in a thumb drive full of MP3s, IntelliLink gets you connected.  USB connectivity is standard, as is an SD card slot for models equipped with the available onboard navigation system.  If you prefer your music to come to you, three months of SiriusXM Satellite Radio is included.

2012 Buick Verano to be Quieter than Acura TSX in Columbia SC

2012 Buick Verano Interior Columbia SC

Engineers working on the 2012 Buick Verano targeted Buick's flagship LaCrosse to make it quieter than Lexus IS or Acura TSX.

Jim Hudson Buick, the #1 Buick dealer in South Carolina, eagerly awaits the 2012 Buick Verano that will arrive later this year.  Buick is world-renowned for its Quiet Tuning process, and is taking many steps to make sure the compact Verano will deliver one of the quietest driving experiences in the industry – better than key competitors Lexus IS 250 and Acura TSX.

Buick noise and vibration engineers spent many hours tuning Verano to the highest standard of quietness by replicating the ultra-quiet interior of another luxury sedan – the flagship Buick LaCrosse for sale in Columbia SC.

“By positioning the Verano against the very best, our noise and vibration team went above and beyond to deliver the quiet driving experience for which Buicks have become known,” said Chuck Russell, Verano vehicle line director. “Quiet-tuning components and systems are built into every facet of the Verano’s architecture.”

All cars create noise in several ways, from road and wind noise to the air intake, engine, transmission, and gears.  For many years, the solution was simply to add piles of sound-deadening installation throughout the cabin–effective, but heavy.  Through sophisticated design and planning, Verano employs a dozen noise-reducing or noise-cancelling technologies in its body structure to isolate the cabin and increase quietness, all without adding any net weight to the car:

  • A 5.4-mm-thick acoustic-laminated windshield and 4.85-mm-thick acoustic laminated side glass that minimizes wind noise
  • Acoustic insulation material on both sides of the front steel dash panel and under the hood that reduce engine noise
  • Five layers of acoustic insulation material in the headliner, including a premium fabric on the visible outer layer that muffles wind noise
  • Triple-sealed doors that keep out exterior noise
  • Three layers of acoustic insulation material in the doors that reduces the sound of wet-road sizzle
  • Dual-density carpet on the floor that block coarse road and tire noise
  • Underbody paneling that lowers wind and low road-surface noise while improving fuel economy
  • Liquid-applied sound deadener that supports a solid body structure
  • Specially tuned air intake and exhaust systems that enable pleasing engine sound quality without sacrificing engine performance
  • Isolated chassis components that reduce vibrations over irregular road surfaces for a solid road feel
  • A patented rear suspension that enables crisp road feel and superior ride and handling performance without sacrificing quietness
  • Hydraulic suspension bushings and an isolated engine cradle that reduces or eliminates vibrations.

Beyond these technologies, quiet is even baked into Verano’s very structure.  During the earliest parts of Verano’s assembly, heat-activated baffles are inserted in various pillars, crossbars and other structural members. Once Verano enters the paint oven to bake its gorgeous finish, those baffles expand to seal off any parts of the structure that would otherwise transmit noise into the cabin.

Verano’s exceptionally quiet nature resulted from hundreds of virtual and physical tests on the car’s body structure, tires, chassis, interior and powertrain under a variety of conditions to eliminate or reduce noise, vibration and harshness. Road noise was measured on a variety of surfaces specifically chosen for their rough nature and in a wind tunnel, as well as in thermal and cold chambers. A four-post shaker rig was used to evaluate squeaks and rattles by subjecting Verano to hours after hours of rough bounces–more than most engineers would care to subject themselves to behind the wheel.

Under the hood, Verano’s acoustic engine cover, alternator and refined engine accessory drive system are designed for quiet operation, and its six-speed automatic transmission allows the engine to operate at lower – and less noisy – speeds on the highway while also improving fuel efficiency compared to transmissions with fewer gears.

“Verano was held to the highest standards, as accomplished on Buick Enclave, LaCrosse and Regal, and it achieves a new standard for interior quietness,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of Buick Marketing. “We’re confident that luxury car shoppers will be hard pressed to find a quieter car at any price point on the market today.”

Columbia SC Buick Verano Produced In Green Plant

A technician at GM's Orion Assembly Plant works on pre-production models.

When production begins on the 2012 Buick Verano later this year, Columbia South Carolina drivers can take pride in its origins.  Verano will be built in General Motors’ Orion Township plant, a plant that has been upgraded to receive some 40 percent of its energy needs using gas from a nearby landfill.  The gas is burned primarily to create steam for the plant’s heating and compressed air systems, meeting their needs for production while releasing fewer greenhouse gases, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides…oh, and saving roughly $1.1 million annually.

The Buick Verano plant’s energy-saving efforts don’t just stop at talking trash; an upgraded lighting system in the plant allows workers and supervisors to monitor their energy consumption hourly and adjust their equipment shut-down routines to save over 5,944 megawatts of electricity every year.  The plant’s upgraded paint shop now uses a waterborne base coat, which eliminates the need for a primer oven while also creating a more premium finish.  Heated by a combination of natural and landfill gas, it cuts the energy use of the old paint shop in half. If one were to combine all the greenhouse gas savings created in the new plant, it would be a total of 80,000 metric tons when running at full capacity, or the equivalent of 14,000 cars per year; the electricity savings can power 3,500 homes.

Beyond energy savings, Buick engineers are working to use smarter materials when producing the 2012 Buick Verano.  Cardboard packaging used at Orion and other GM plants is processed with used denim to create parts of Verano’s sound insulation to ensure that its interior is library-quiet, a hallmark of Buick’s exceptional quality and just what it needs to highlight the new IntelliLink touchscreen radio system backed with connectivity through OnStar.

Report: Buick Verano Turbo Offers Columbia SC 250+ Horsepower

Buick Verano Turbo Engine

Edmunds Inside Line highlighted one new unveiling at the New York International Auto Show, where Buick highlighted the forthcoming Buick Verano Turbo.  Not content with the 177-horsepower 2.4-liter engine that will come in the standard Verano, Buick engineers have lifted the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from the forthcoming Buick Regal GS and made it fit in the smaller Verano.  The Regal GS is rated for 255 horsepower; Edmunds estimates around 250 in the Verano, which should be good for an estimated 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds with a six-speed manual transmission, a second and a half quicker than the standard 2.4-liter engine while retaining fuel economy ratings of around 30 highway miles per gallon.

The Buick Verano Turbo should also offer more performance than the Regal GS, since the former will have a weight advantage of around 300 pounds, but the Regal GS is also expected to receive upgrades to remain atop the Buick performance heap.  The turbocharged version of the Verano is also expected to receive exclusive wheel designs among other premium features.

In addition, Edmunds was able to spend a little time sitting inside the 2012 Verano and found the front seats comfortable and that the back seat offered adequate amounts of legroom for their adult-sized frames.  Buick also announced at the show that the Verano will start well below the price of the Buick Regal in Columbia, South Carolina, and that the turbocharged version will still come in below the $30,000 mark.  The 2.4L-equipped Buick Verano will be available in Columbia starting later this year, while the Buick Verano Turbo will probably become available in the second half of 2012 as a 2013 model year vehicle.

Columbia SC Receives 2012 Buick Verano Pictures

Jim Hudson Buick, the premier Columbia Buick dealer, announces the unveiling of the all-new 2012 Buick Verano, a compact premium sedan arriving in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Verano is the third all-new model Buick has offered in the past two years and offers Columbia drivers a compelling combination of luxury features and compact efficiency.  Verano will ride on a version of General Motors’ global Delta platform, which currently underpins the Chevrolet Cruze.  Verano will, however, receive an exclusive 2.4L four-cylinder engine derived from the one found in the larger Buick Regal and Buick LaCrosse for sale in Columbia SC rated at 177 horsepower–about 45 more than any available engine in the Cruze.  Estimated 0-60 times will be around eight seconds, while fuel economy is expected to be around 31 highway miles per gallon.  In the future, a 2.0L turbocharged engine similar to the one found in the Buick Regal Turbo will be made available.

Verano features many of the options Columbia car shoppers have come to expect from a Buick, including available heated leather seats and steering wheel, push-button engine start, passive keyless entry, electronic parking brake, dual-zone automatic climate control, express up-and-down power windows, Bluetooth connectivity for both phone calls and audio, Bose premium sound system, and touchscreen navigation.  In addition, Buick has fitted its exclusive QuietTuning process to Verano to ensure a world-class ride through the sometimes-noisy streets of Columbia.

Verano features a stunning design in the tradition of the modern Buick renaissance led by the Buick Enclave, LaCrosse, and Regal.  An arching roofline connects a steeply raked windshield and fast-sloping rear pillars to give the car a sporty profile that’s complemented by large, 17-inch standard multi-spoke forged alloy sterling silver-finish wheels with a pair of premium 18-inch wheel designs available.  Gone are the days of steel wheels and hubcaps–this truly is the new class of world class!

Buick Verano Columbia SC Teaser

Teaser image released of the 2012 Buick Verano, coming soon to Columbia, SC

Jim Hudson Buick, the premier Columbia Buick dealer, announces the 2012 Buick Verano that will be coming next year to Columbia, South Carolina.

Verano is a premium compact sedan that joins the fastest-growing mainstream brand in the United States, a brand reinvigorated by the fresh designs of the LaCrosse, Enclave, and Regal over the past few years.  The successes of LaCrosse and Regal, as well as the GMC Terrain five-passenger crossover, are a sign that Columbia buyers are looking for premium features in a smaller package than the old full-size luxury sedan standard.  At this time, the exact features of Verano have not been announced.

What has been announced, however, is that the Verano will be built at the Orion Assembly plant in Lake Orion, Michigan.  Orion Assembly, which last built the Pontiac G6 mid-size sedan, is being retooled as part of a $145 million investment in the plant that will retain 1,550 hourly and salaried jobs at the plant as well as 120 at the nearby Pontiac Metal Center.  Add in Verano’s development, and the total investment in the program swells to $600 million.

Orion Assembly has 27 years of service, building over four million cars in its history and setting an industry record of 10 million man-hours without anyone losing a work day to injury.  It is also the first General Motors facility to be named a Clean Corporate Citizen by the State of Michigan.  GM and the United Auto Workers collaborated on innovative contractual language that will keep the plant lean and flexible, a crucial element to successful small car development.  Retooling of the plant should be complete in summer 2011.
